A warm welcome to Amedeo’s web page!We appreciate the time you are taking to view a small but unique school more than traditions and more than just knowledge. Amedeo has evolved from the needs of many children, needs that require meeting if we, as educators, expect to deliver a competent new adult generation. It is through these needs that Amedeo has been born. A Christian-based haven for real learning and growth!
At Amedeo, we understand that people are created as individuals and that each child needs to be treated as such. We recognise that listening with intent is necessary, that people need validation and, therefore, speaking positively into all situations is conducive to producing excellence.
We appreciate that our job is to empower children and acknowledge that kindness, servanthood and building solid relationships results in happy, confident children. We endeavour to speak honestly and positively to each other. We ensure that we connect with all children that walk through the classroom door and treat each individual with understanding and wisdom.
We undertake, too, to ensure a pleasant and safe learning environment and to present each lesson with enthusiasm and interest, as our goal is to foster a love of learning. Along with well-trained and committed staff, we believe in forgiveness, unconditional love and in affording each child opportunities to learn through their mistakes by providing encouragement, discussion and discipline if, and when, required.
Finally, we endeavour to never negatively judge a child, because we believe each child is able and capable and that it is ultimately our job to find a way for every learner to reach their potential. We trust that your website experience will encourage you to take the next step to contact us for a visit to experience the spirit of Amedeo. May I leave you with the exact ‘heart’ of the Amedeo teacher, succinctly represented in the form of a poem composed by Paula Fox, titled: Heart of a Teacher.Heart of A Teacherby Paula J. FoxThe child arrives like a mystery box…with puzzle pieces inside some of the pieces are broken or missing…and others just seem to hideBut the HEART of a teacher can sort them out…and help the child to see the potential for greatness he has within…a picture of what he can beHer goal isn’t just to teach knowledge…by filling the box with more parts it’s putting the pieces together…to create a work of art.The process is painfully slow at times…some need more help than others each child is a work in progress…with assorted shapes and coloursFirst she creates a classroom…where the child can feel safe in school where he never feels threatened or afraid to try…and kindness is always the ruleShe knows that a child can achieve much more when he feels secure inside when he’s valued and loved…and believes in himself … and he has a sense of prideShe models and teaches good character…and respect for one another how to focus on strengths…not weaknesses and how to encourage each otherShe gives the child the freedom he needs…to make choices on his own so he learns to become more responsible…and is able to stand alone He’s taught to be strong and think for himself…as his soul and spirit heal and the puzzle that’s taking shape inside…has a much more positive feelThe child discovers the joy that comes…from learning something new… and his vision grows as he begins to see all the things he can doA picture is formed as more pieces fit…an image of the child within with greater strength and confidence…and a belief that he can win!All because a hero was there…in the HEART of a teacher who cared enabling the child to become much more…than he ever imagined…or daredA teacher with a HEART for her children…knows what teaching is all about she may not have all the answers…but on this…she has no doubtWhen asked which subjects she loved to teach, she answered this way and smiled… It’s not the subjects that matter…It’s all about teaching the CHILD.”Warmest RegardsLynne DelatéPrincipal
