Amedeo College Upper Primary

Ages 10 to 12

The Upper Primary years are a time of significant academic and personal growth. In Grades 4 to 6, learners move from foundational skills into a richer, more diverse Cambridge curriculum — one that challenges them to think critically, work independently, and apply their knowledge in new and creative ways.

For our assisted learners, this is also a stage of growing self-awareness. Learners begin to understand their own learning profiles — what strategies work for them, where their strengths lie, and how to advocate for themselves. This metacognitive development is actively nurtured by our teachers.

Project-based learning becomes an increasing feature of Upper Primary, allowing learners to demonstrate their understanding in ways that go beyond traditional tests and worksheets. Computing and Digital Literacy are also developed at this stage, building computational thinking and problem-solving skills.

Upper Primary Curriculum - Developing deeper knowledge, independence, and critical thinking

Our phased approach to primary schooling allows students to spend time on subjects they struggle with, and master topics faster in areas of interest and natural ability. This means that they might technically be in one stage, but can start with a higher Grade/Stage content in certain subjects to help lay solid foundations and build up their mastery. The same child can also move forward in another subject to work that is typically only accessible in Grade/Stage 6, if they show the aptitude for it.
