Amedeo College – Cambridge Preparatory & High School
(Grade R–12) in Rivonia

Amedeo College Lower Primary
Ages 7 to 9

The Lower Primary years — Grades 1 to 3 — are the period when the formal building blocks of academic learning are laid. At Amedeo College, this is also the stage where many learning differences first become clearly apparent, and where early, targeted support makes the greatest difference.

Our Cambridge-aligned Lower Primary programme covers English, Mathematics, Science, and a broad range of enrichment subjects — each delivered through our signature multisensory approach. We do not simply teach children facts; we teach them how to learn, building metacognitive skills that will serve them throughout their education.

Reading is a particular focus in Lower Primary. Our structured literacy programme uses explicit phonics instruction alongside reading fluency and comprehension strategies to build confident, capable readers — particularly for learners with dyslexia and related reading differences.
Lower Primary Curriculum - Developing core skills and confidence
Our phased approach to primary schooling allows students to spend time on subjects they struggle with, and master topics faster in areas of interest and natural ability. This means that they might technically be in one Grade/Stage 5, but can start with another Grade/Stage content in certain subjects to help lay solid foundations and build up their mastery. The same child can also move forward in another subject to work that is typically only accessible in a higher stage, if they show the aptitude for it.
